start. The basic process is eeschema (make a schematic), cvpcb (associate
modules to schematic components), import the netlist to PCBnew to make the pcb.
Pretty quick and painless. Each step in the process does one thing only and does
it very well. Makes no assumptions about what came before or what comes next,
just does what you tell it.
It's not like a lot of programs that try to intuit what you are going to do next
and get it wrong just enough to completely destroy any advantage that the other
correct guessing may have had.
