I use a sponge and some "Barkeepers friend" it's a powder cleaner that
comes in a gold can much like "comet", or "ajax" come in. It's based on
oxalic acid, and does a great job of cleaning a variety of metals. I
just rub it around till the copper is bright and then rinse it off
thoroughly. Of course never touch the copper with your bare fingers
after doing this before doing the transfer. I use gloves, and hold the
board by the edges.
