Subject: Hi! I'm new

It's true that I am new to this group but, I personally have not been new for a very long time. Age: 61. I built my first kits in high school. My first kits were Heathkits. I was disappointed to see their demise. Also, I built a VHF receiver while in high school. This was from a Popular Electronics article. So, it was a built from scratch kit. My very first kit was a Heathkit SWL receiver. It didn't work. Ackkk. So started my troubleshooting career. After going over all the construction steps and not finding the fault, I was getting concerned that my first kit assembly might be turning into a failure. Perseverance paid off. I found that a tube socket had a contact without a hole and a hole without a contact. I punched a hole through the socket and the radio started working when the tube was sitting in the correct holes! I am an Extra Class, no code, amateur. Charles AE5EW
