I've had good luck laser engraving Thermark (www.thermark.com) for a PCB
soldermask. It leaves a permanent glass-like surface on the PCB.
High powered non enclosed laser like that laser while cool isn't
recommended. Chance of laser reflection would be high.
Lasers have come down in price. We sell the basic model for $1495:
