It's hard to go wrong with HP, I'm also having good luck with my Xerox, but I don't think it's current production.
I suppose you could take some transfer paper to a store and print something on it with several different printers and see which one makes the nicest transfer to copper. Doesn't have to be a PCB layout, text would work fine.
