I use the HP p1006 with Staples Basic Gloss Photo paper and it turns out quite nice. I got the printer at Egghead with free shipping a year and a half ago and I still am making PCB's on the original toner.
I do have a problem with traces on the edges of the pcb but I think it is my problem, not the printer or paper. I just purchased a laminator and am anxious to see how it works.
