Subject: Double sided boards and feed throughs

Greetings to all,
I'm new to the board but eager to learn.
I'm embarking on a rather ambitious project that will probably see me making around 65-70 PCB's when all is said and done. Most will be simple single sided boards but about 1/4 to 1/3 of them will be double sided.
About half of the components are such that soldering to both sides of the board isn't possible. I've had a look through the group archives but nothing really caught my eye. Considering that cost is a large factor in this project, does anyone have any good simple feed through methods. I've considered just placing pads and vias's adjacent to the holes on either side and using surplus component leads to solve the issue as a last resort.
Any other ideas?
Glad to make everyone's acquaintance,
