Thanks, I didn't notice that.
I had the DC connector the wrong way round, anyway. Correcting it on the
layout removed that link, of course. The regulator was a dead short when I
first tested it and was taking over 1A. Those little TO-92 devices are very
robust, and it still worked when I turned the connector round.
The board works; I've just tried a test program on it
