Just a quick update:

I bought a D120 and started modding. I removed the back with a dremel
to allow horizontal loading and raised the print-head enough to allow
even thick PCBs through. I ran into two problems: Raising one of the
corners moves the print-head carriage too far away for a small plastic
arm to reach what I'm assuming is some sort of sensor (if this corner
is raised, the printer indicates paper jam and won't start). The
corner in question is the one closest to the motor that moves the
print-head. It should be trivial to elongate the arm with a bit of
plastic and superglue, which I will try tomorrow. The other problem is
how to modify the mechanism which loads a fresh sheet of paper into
the printer to work in the horizontal mode.

I was surprised to learn that the D120 does not have any stepper
motors, since my old D88 has one.
