M. Zingg also does multilayer with a heated press and epoxy.
As you said where it makes sense is if you have customers jumping up and
down needing prototypes yesterday and willing to pay for it. Instead of
giving insane amounts of money to PCB houses for short (still
comparatively long) turnaround you can charge that money yourself and make
that board at home.
It does not make particularly much sense to invest $500, probably more, on
starting materials if you only want to do one or two boards for yourself,
then it seems much better to give them to a board house.
But still, the vast majority of this group does not make multilayer at
home - not that i don't like the discussion of it.
If you put enough effort into it you can make almost everything at home.
