Anyways - if you do want to run it with your own
software/hardware then it should not be too hard.

Look at the link I sent before about Linux EMC.

It can connect straight to the L297 type
controllers shown here

L297s are very low tech and pretty dodgy - but
then again that thing from bungard is hardly
21st century with "high torque stepper motors"


If you want to go servo motors do a google
search for

"ELM servo"

and you will find a tidy little atmel servo
controller some nice bloke has done.
