Hi Mark,
i use to have a Poly-800 and i must admit, that it sounds like a load of
sh∗t. The "Moog-Slayer"-Mod is nothing different than moving the
internal Potentiometers for Cutoff and Resonance outside of the case;
but imo it doesn´t make the sound (or "overall feeling/touch") better.
It´s a matter of Taste, but imo it has the typical "electronic
Postcard"-Sound.
If i were you, i would sell the Poly-61 and buy a DW-8000 (a Polysix
also doesn´t sound bad, but it hasn´t as much possibilities than the
8000 and it is nowadays too expensive). I have the EX-8000; it isn´t
very useful for special things like Effects, but can produce -very- good
smooth Strings, Flutes etc.
