How about load new banks of sounds?  I'm especially
interested in good string and brass sounds.

There are numerous banks available on the net;  they can be loaded& saved either as .wav files (via cassette machine or computer soundcard), or as sysex files via the MIDI port.
The best method I've found for loading sysex files is the MIDI-OXprogram, which is available online as a free download -- if you're goingto be using MIDI, it's a VERY useful tool to have (and you can't beat theprice).
