Subject: op amps for your consideration

Grant raised the subject of op amps. I am aware that the TL0xx (TL072, etc.)
are the default op amp of choice in the synth DIY world, and not without
good reason, but I'd like to nominate another set of chips for
consideration -- especially since (a) we're going to need a bunch of them,
and (b) power consumption has already been raised as a concern (at least
with regard to 5V power).

The envelope, please. And the nominees are:
The National LF442 dual and LF444 quad. I know of them because Ray Wilson
(musicfromouterspace) uses them for things like the battery powered Sound
Lab Mini-Synth. He has stated that he'd like to redesign some of his old
circuits around them.

I'm looking at the datasheets, but I honestly can't be sure that I'm
comparing apples to apples. (I'm out of my league, here, but that never
stopped me before. ;-) It's obvious that these LFs are about twice as noisy
as the TL07x (35 nV/Hz^1/2 vs 18 nV/Hz^1/2) -- but that seems plenty low
enough. But, is the power consumption very much lower? Is the power output
great enough? I dunno!

I do know that we aren't worried about how they sound. ;-)

I leave it to the list brains to determine the worthiness of these chips.
