Here is the reference and link to enjoy....
"The film's music composer, Akira Ifukube, provided a memorable score, along with the sound of Godzilla's savage, otherworldly roar. "Originally, the sound department was trying to use the sounds of elephants, lions and eagles, but none of these recordings turned out to be useful," says Ifukube, 89. "So I proposed the idea to use the sound of a contrabass, which has a very deep tone. To make the sound more complex, I rubbed the strings with a leather glove. The sound was electronically processed, and that's how Godzilla's voice was created." "

I remember this from a Documentary I saw long ago. Many confuse the cello for a contrabass but the documentary did show a contrabass in use with the sound being made. Oh well...

None, you mean to tell me you did not know how that sound was made? ;-)
