The Yamaha computer that was out about the same time as the DX7 and DX9 and
with the same chip (CX5M, was it?) used to have a speech command.
Accordingto Dave Bristow, Yamaha's demonstrator at the time, the command was
only in the Japanese manual because, according to Yamaha, the computer only
spoke Japanese. But he was able to get it to speak several European
languages with a heavy Japanese accent by putting in almost joke-Japanese -
e.g. `haro' for `hello.' It worked, too. He used to demonstrate this, and
I've been there when he did it.

So in theory the DX7 should be able to say a few things, though in practice
it may not have the command structure for it?
