I must be one of the few... I don't have these problems with MS. Then again, it might be that I been a authorized MS dude for nearly 20 years too and I well familiar with MS products...
I would much rather me more familiar with music however...
You will find Linux in full use in some of the newer synths... good example Korg's OASYS. PS2 is another (yea I use my PS2 as a synth too... ;-) ), x-box however may prove painful to you, it's windows ce...
so keep your eye open ...

True, but those 99% of synths aren't running MS Windows for an OS.
