WOW! It actually works?!? Using a dual G5 Running OS X 10.3.5 with Classic 9.2.2 and OMS
2.3.8 along with the MIDISport_9-3.0.8 drivers and AN1xEdit v1.1
Michiel, thanks for sharing your findings :-) Sorry to have been so sceptical.
I think it's fair to say something has changed with the update from Jaguar to Panther.
Exercise caution doing the install - the MIDISport install crashed my G5 :-( Suggest you
install OMS 2.3.8, restart Classic, THEN install the MIDISport drivers and restart Classic
again. I did one on top of the other - doh!, should have known better - and had to
perform a hard reset :-/
Don't forget about the little 'bug' in AN1xEdit:
From within AN1xEdit, under the Setup menu select the MIDI Port Setup...toggle between
any devices other than the AN1x from the MIDI Port Setup... dialog then back again to
AN1x will reestablish the dropped connection to OMS.
I found the MIDISport 1x1 to be somewhat more reliable under Classic + OS X using the
3.0.8 driver then the last time I tried it stand alone under OS 9 - don't recall the driver
version offhand, but I'll post back later when I find out :-/
I'm only able to Send/Receive 2-8 Voices at a time reliably but anymore than that will
result in chronic 'Retry' prompts (which sometimes works!), but too many Voices at once
will crash both AN1xEdit and Classic. Save early and save often. FWIW, I'm running the
MIDISport off a powered USB hub NOT directly attached to a USB on the G5. I'll have to try
my Emagic MT4 to compare its reliability with the MIDISport 1x1.
Obviously the FAQ is now in need of an update :-P Guess I'll have to get off my butt next
week and finish version 2.
