I think that the Gizmotron was actually a set of rollers that allowed
infinite sustain on each string (like having 6 ebow's sitting on the
bridge).
G&C made an album that used it extensively which is defiantly worth a
listen called Consequences in 1977 (a triple LP box). There was a dbl CD
reissue once upon a time, not sure if still available though.

. quite amazing indeed that multi vocal layers in there !
i remember i read somewhere that it was a tape multitrack layering of
normal human voices .. 8 or even more layers .. i think will be easier
and more realistic to do it with a sampler in multi mode and your own
voice + a dense reverb , then with a synth.
ciao

I recall watching a TV programe about that ages ago...
What they did was overlay vocals on top of each other in the studio -
more than two hundred overdubs, if I recall - and the result was the
only vocals to match the lushness of, say, a Mellotron...but it was all
analogue vocals, with not a synth on sight! A bit hard to reproduce
live, I reckon, well, not unless you had an awful lot of backing
vocalists!
10cc were a weird band - they wrote bubblegum pop, and yet were actually
at the forefront of musical creativity. They composed simple songs that
were complex essays on pop music - they were almost a parody of
themselves - possibly the Frank Zappas of English pop! Like the 'Gizmo'
that Creme and Godley invented which I think (I may be wrong here) was
the first guitar synth. Not bad of a two-bit pop band from Manchester:)
10cc albums worth listening to: '110cc', 'Sheet Music', 'The Original
Soundtrack' (prob. their best) and 'How Dare You' Godley & Creme album
worth "experiencing": 'Consequences' the 1977 triple album showcasing
the Gizmo - tres weird!!!!
Frank

Hi........
I seem to remember it was one of those landmark multitrack records, they
where one of the first to track the backing vocals so many times they
got that multisamle choir type texture that later became so common with
the advent of samplers.

Subject: Goodbye
Hello All,
I've finally sold and shipped my AN1x. It's a great instrument, and
I'll miss it, but I don't have a lot of room around for gear that isn't
getting used Thus, owning neither an AN1x, AN200, or PL150AN, belonging
to an AN1x-based list isn't really in the cards. I didn't want to
leave, though, without thanking all of the people on this list who
provided insights, patches, and just plain food for thought over the
last few years. This is one of the more pleasant lists that I've
belonged to, and the restraint and tolerance displayed here should be
applauded. In particular, I'd like to thank Jon creating and moderating
this list, and for his help and insights; and I'd like to thank
(Rainbow) Jim for his help, and for just making me laugh -- and think --
from time to time.
If anyone needs to contact me, I don't expect the ashbysolutions.com
(below) link to disappear any time soon. Also, the ModSynth Page --
such as it is -- will stay put for the foreseeable future. I'm going to
add some new items soon, and would welcome items from members of the
list. Right now, the AN1x coverage is decent, but just about everything
else is spotty.
Good luck to all!
Regards,
-BW

bruce@...P.S. Jon, sorry for the re-subscribe hassles. I actually wrote this a
couple of hours ago, and left the list about 20 min. later. However,
the idiosyncrasies of the Internet being what they are, my leaving the
list preceded the email reaching the server, and so it bounced. This
time, I'll wait a bit. :^|
