Subject: Re: [AN1x] OT: JON vs. ION (or AN1x vs. ION) - long

I concur that some off-topic discussions among fellow users is very
productive.

We're here because we all own/use a particular synth. When a review
compares that synth to another the perspective is very useful, not just
using colorful words to try to describe something, but comparing it to
something known.

Regarding the Ion presentation by Craig Anderton: Since he's been around
for quite a while and done some very impressive work (I especially enjoyed
Electronic Musician magazine when he was editor) it was cool to hear him
live. He was just as I pictured him, quite the geek and very interesting to
listen to because of his intelligence and experience. (I personally don't
think switching to the Ion as my VA for performance would do me much good.
I love the morphing of the AN1x and since I've got it mapped to a pedal it
frees both hands to play full parts. I can make pads wash thicker and
thinner and leads pierce and wane legato without losing my left hand.
Further, when it's a lead, the ribbon on the AN1x is better than a wheel
because it's a dual parameter change without performing finger acrobatics -
side to side for filter cutoff and pressure for resonance kicks butt for the
most part.)

Just speaking for myself.
