Subject: Different: [AN1x] Midi help required

A different MIDI theoretical question, since I know you guys probably all are versed in MIDI.

There is a huge question on another list I am a member of, the Roland 880VS list. On that list, there is a big argument about the feasabilty of something and I wonder if people here had an opinion on if it was possible at all.

I assume most people know of the Roland 880, 1680, 1880, and 2480 hard disk recording units. These units all have automix, and all have MIDI ports. I use mine to control a drum machine directly.
One person wondered about the possibility of a future upgrade, if it would be possible to record the MIDI sequencer data to the VS unit. Not using one of the tracks, but simply as a feature to be able to archive all song data in the VS instead of having some MIDI file AND a multi-track file.

Another part of that persons future wish, was to have maybe the possibility of the MIDI out sending out the sequencer data on it's MIDI out port, and acting as a sequencer.

Other people came in that they thought this would be even theoretically impossible....

I sure don't know. Could anyone here venture an opinion on this?
