Dude, if that much coal dust is getting into your practice room even though
you cover your instrument -- you gotta seal that room off somehow. Do you
know how most resistors are constructed for electronic circuitry? Carbon.
Just like that dust getting on your baby. If enough of that carbon gets on
the circuitry eventually it will kill it. As a technician I'm telling you
that you're in a very bad environment for electronics. (As far as the human
effect -- it's not all that bad AFIK.)
My suggestion would be to make a room in your place dust-proof. It can be
done, of course not like a NASA clean room, but a lot of people have to seal
up their homes due to allergies and it's not terribly difficult. You might
do an internet search on dust-proofing. Meanwhile, the right way to remove
coal dust might be out there on a Google search somewhere... it's gotta be
abrasive so rubbing wouldn't be a very good option.
