Yes - yes Mr. Rainbow has said it again in the condensed version.

The effects section is an animal all unto itself. Be VERY CAREFUL of
blasting the EQ as well as either the VAR or DLY sections of the effects.

Think of them this way:
You have a synth, see, and it has a certain amount of volume at the output.
This output is fed into the effects section as the final amplification and
modification before it exits into the output jacks. The effects can be
blasted by excessive output from the synth itself causing nasty digital
distortion. Further, even if the input to the effects section is tolerable
and useful, the effects themselves can ruin the sound due to overloading
certain parameters. When in doubt, back off on the level of the particular
thing you are programming to see if the distortion goes away.

Massage your synth, don't bash it into submission.
