Have you told it you will send it to Siberia if it doesn't behave?
(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Sounds pretty ugly that it's not retaining memory. Start with a $3 battery
replacement. Simple as pie - take all of the screws out of the back, lift
it off, and there's the battery in a holder.

Tell us what happens after you replace the battery.
Oh, and while you're inside there, blow out all the dust, press your thumb
on all the socked chips and re-seat any ribbon cables.
