Sorry to burst your little virus bubble but, I really don't like the sound
that the virus emits- I think this down to it being 24 bit and not 16. There
is something about the sound of 24 bit I really don't like- and although the
Virus has all the idiosyncracies's of an analogue (clever bit of programming
I may point out)- It's way to clean IMO And (like a lot of other 24 bit
stuff) because of the amount of processing needed to get it to function- the
sound gets "put in the background"- I know there's now gonna be a load of
mails telling me what a load of crap I'm talking- but I ∗REALLY∗ do believe
this (I've got a very wide hearing range and I'm the one who always starts
complaining about hearing ultrasound (bats, intruder detectors, dog whistles
LOL!)- when everybody else thinks I'm going bonkers!!
I can demonstrate this btw on my Nord (although it's not 24 bit- it gets
near). Make a simple patch and it sounds pretty damn analogue- add a few
modules- up to the limit of the DSP and.... hey presto (In fact it's pretty
similar to that PWM popping sound I mentioned before). Remember when people
like Philips discovered 1-bit as opposed to 24x Oversampling on CD's??- well
perhaps there is a better way to physical modelling- and are we (at the
moment) barking up the wrong tree??
Tom :-)
