This is getting a bit off-topic, so I hope you people don't mind
if I tell a bit more about the EX5.
What you should keep in mind, is that demos ∗always∗ sound fantastic.
THey probably used some hi-end effects, compression, stuff like
that. But still, it's a very capable machine, and it's going away
cheap now - if you can still find one.
The sampler consists of two parts: recording and playing. In playing,
it's part of the synthesis engine, and thus completely different
from the A3000 (but that's because the A3000 is completely different
from anything else). So all the thing you can do with built-in
waveforms, you can do with samples in RAM or Flash. However, you
don't have stuff like loop remix.
Recording is pretty straightforward: you can record, cut and paste,
normalise, create multi-samples, do keymapping, and that's about
it. You can also load samples from floppy or (optional) SCSI, and
here is where the trouble begins: it is ∗slow∗. Not just slow, but
∗very∗ slow. Think about 30 minutes to load 64 Mb of data.
So if you plan to do a lot of sample-loading and loop-oriented
work, look elsewhere. If you want a synth that offers double the
polyphony of the Triton Pro at less than half the price, with about
the same feature set (though the sequencer is not so good) and very
good sounds, maybe this is one for you. Just make sure you can get
the latest ROM version, though it depends on your territory whether
you get it for free or not.
