Hi Alan,

It's a kind of an interesting problem you have there!

>>
C and D are in tune over the whole 6 octaves while E,F,G A and B are
not.
<<

The only thing that I can imagine to cause this are either:

A) Some form of microtuning setup on the Korg.

B) Some form of Key Aftertouch setting being sent to the Korg which is
configured to cause a pitch shift.

Neither of these is likely to be transmitted from the AN1x.

>>
Further clue. With everything switched on and the Korg still out of
tune, I disconnect the midi in cable coming from the AN and hey
presto the Korg is back in tune. So this means it is definitely a
signal from the AN that is causing the detune. Any ideas?
<<

That's interesting. I really doubt the An1x is sending any form of
controller message on a permanent basis that is holding the Korg in the
detune state. Much more likely is that the AN1x is sending active sense
messages (most Yamaha keyboards do. It's a message that tells attached
equipment that the keyboard is still alive). If this is the case, then
unplugging the MIDI IN cable from the Korg will stop the Active sense
message from arriving. Most equipments response to the loss of active
sense is to stop sounding all voices and to reset all controllers!

Hence the clue in this operation is that the detune is almost certainly
caused by a controller setup on the Korg. However it does not
necessarily follow that the AN1x sent that controller. Simply that
disconnecting the An1x forces the Korg to reset it.

Have you tried different combinations of turning on the Korg and the
An1x to see if all produce the same effect. Have you checked using
different patches on the Korg or even performing a factory reset etc.

Sorry I can't be of more help....but I'm interested to know the cause
when you find it. Please make sure you post the solution to the group
;-)

Regards

Gary Gregson
