I just did this. It fails in exactly the same way, but seems to take a half second longer before
freezing. This is with the SB16 now...I put it back in and plug&play recognized it an set up the
appropriate drives.

This has to be the crux of the problem. I get the chatter even after Windows is up.

Strange, when I went back to the SB card, I didn't have that option anymore either.

I tried it....it didn't make a difference.

Another thing (god...there are so many) that puzzles me is I can turn OFF transmit channel, receive channel, device ID and STILL it reacts as soon as power up. Again, I can do this with the IN (sb card) cable pulled out of the An1x (OUT) and it makes no difference. I would expect it to ignore anything coming in in the MIDI port with all those things turned off. Maybe I misunderstand the meaning of IFF in the context.
