I can't really call myself a "progressive rocker" -- although I do enjoy
the genre. That said, I tend to use my AN1x for more "classic" analog
synth sounds like the bands of the 70's and 80's used. I've been playing
synths since the early seventies, and that's where my roots are, I
guess. I like Trance and Hip Hop; I just don't find myself playing much of
it on stage.
The AN-series are great copies of the fundamentals of a classic analog
synthesizer -- which is exactly the sound used by both progressive rock and
dance/groove-oriented music. Since progressive rock isn't all the popular
these days, though, the marketing folks at Yamaha probably decided to focus
on the newer, hotter markets in their advertising. Nevertheless, show me a
musical instrument that a) was "made for hip hop" and b) has a 3.5-octave
or better full-size keyboard, and I can tweak it to make it suitable for
any other synth genre, too.
