Hi JP,
"...Can the an1x sound as good in mono as it does in stereo?"
Pretty much every synth at the ground level is mono. It is only through
panning and effects (eg. chorus, reverb, and of course stereo delay) that
the stereo image is created.
If effects are added later, I wouldn't be concerned at all by using mono
sounds, in most cases. Recording a bassline onto a stereo track, for
example, is a bit of a waste of resources.
A pad patch, on the other hand, may pan different oscillators left and right
to generate a feeling of spaciousness. But as long as both tracks are
combined to form the mono signal, the essence of the sound won't be lost.
Can the AN1x/PLG-150AN even pan its sounds? If not, then I don't think
you'll be missing anything at all by having two cards installed and applying
affects at a later stage.
N.B. I may have overlooked something in the configuration of your intended
setup.
Phil

Subject: [AN1x-list] stereo or mono?
quick question-
i'm using a plg150-an hosted by a cs6x. i'm trying to decide
on whether to route the plg output to 1+2, or add another plg
and route each one mono (plg1 to out1 and plg2 to out2).
my question for you all- without fx, can the an1x sound as
good in mono as it does in stereo? i'm only asking because
i'm told by waldorf that the microQ's unique sound wouldn't be
possible with a mono signal. is the same true for our
wonderful an1x/plg150-an??
thanks all ~ jp
