That's a VERY good point regarding the age of the .zip files. Every
compression tool on the market - freeware, shareware, or commercial -
has undergone updates over the years. There was an instance last year
where Stuffit Expand v5.x (don't remember the release number) had a
significant problem decompressing v4.x archives. it was fixed with a
release level upgrade (this was prior to v5.5) but what a pain in the
neck! You may want to search around someplace like ZDNet for an older
release of whatever compression software you use to see if that helps
recover the old archives. The only downside to this tact is that older
versions MAY not run under a newer OS :-/

No, I've not paid too much attention. I have noticed a big difference in
size between self extracting archives vs. non self extracting archive
though. I've also noticed that .zip files are smaller than .sit files.
Even though text files that have been .zipped may have a problem on
Mac's I've decided it's not worth the extra space used to offer both
options. All my Mac specific files are .hqx encoded rather than
.sea.hqx to save on space.
We're pretty OT at this pointing the discussion. If you'd like to carry
on just email me off-line :-)
