Looks like I am finally going to have to buy a proper MIDI interface for
my PC

People recommend the Midiman Midisport range, specifically external
units like the 4X4 (four MIDI ins and four outs), and also the 8X8

But both products are connected via USB. I am wary of using USB as a
MIDI interface having seen various brief mentions of such a setup on the
WWW, most or all saying that USB is not ideal for MIDI ...... though I
can't quite remember why!

I can't imagine that a company like Midiman would produce a turkey
product, but want to hear from list members before I go out and blow UK
pounds 130 (for the 4X4) on something that might not be quite right

Any comments/speculation?

AND any suggestions of alternative products which would do the job?
