My Yamaha EX5R, which has sampling and ROM voices and Analog Modelling has a
programmable arp built in. So I guess it really boils down to what your tools
can do and how you use them.

I'm often surprised at how good a sound can come from a sampler when it's used
to make synth type presets using samples as described above. With the A3000
filters you can come up with some very analog synth type sounds.
