It has been known, and I think searchable on the list as well, that not
all usb-midi devices play nice with some synthesizers.
AN1x is one of them, some Midibox devices are other devices that don't
really play nice with sloppy usb-midi implementations. This could go
from normal midi notes, to bad sysex support.
So my advice would be: do some research on the cheap usb-midi cables,
and figure out which ones work, and which ones don't. Google is
unfortunately your best friend here, since there are so many different
varieties out there, it's hard to say "this unit works 100% of the
time".
Luckily I have a built-in midiport on my soundcard (terratec dmx6 fire),
which works great :D But that doesn't help you right now.
Good luck! Happy hunting.
