I can't help you with Cakewalk, but my question is what kind of midicard for the PC are you using????
I had a SB64 soundcard in my PC and my midiman (midicard) wouldn't work until I unplugged the SB-card. If you are using a SB-live, this could be a problem, I have several friends which had problems with SB-live-cards.
