There was a well known problem with the AN1x where an
audible "popping" & "clicking" would occur when the AN1x was first
powered up. Yamaha was forthcoming in acknowledging the problem and
it's resolution. I had the problem addressed by Yamaha while my AN1x
was still under warranty (purchased autumn '98, repaired spring '99.)
The repair is referred to by Yamaha as a "factory modification". The
synth will need to be returned to a Yamaha facility. Authorized
Yamaha Service Centers are not equipped to affect the repair. It is
a hardware repair and does not register on the diagnostic equipment
used by your local tech - yes, you have to use your ears for this
one.
Yamaha Customer Service will provide a 'Return Authorization Number'
in advance of the instrument being shipped to them. I've no idea
what Yamaha's policy on out-of-warranty repairs is or how much it
will cost.
Hope this helps.
