While I too prefer to have my AN1x in Mode 2, I think it's important to clarify it's not a
requirement for utilizing the Ctrl Matrix assignments under discussion in this thread.
Mode 1 (the default) works perfectly well, but the benefit of Mode 2 is that every MIDI CC
assignment on the AN1x under Mode 2 will be transmitted to the MIDI Out port allowing
you to record and playback your real time tweaks - allowing the AN1x to be automated
within a MIDI Sequencing set-up.

This ia very practical suggestion and very similar to my defaults too.
