Probably best way to do a touch screen synth is to use one of those written for Android tablets. They have USB in for a keyboard if set to MIDI mode, and audio out of the earphone jack.</div>

Be careful with your choice of tablet though - some forget they are in MIDI mode all the time (e.g. Huewei) so you have to set them to that all the time. Samsung ones are fine though.</div>

The idea is I could hack something together very quickly by connecting off the shelf devices, and not getting into the rabbit hole of knobs, DIY cases etc
<br>
I gave it some more thought, and I figured I can find used mini PCs for a fraction of the price of an rpi5 and with better options in terms of software and hardware upgrades (ie, extra ram, additional storage etc). Meaning I might as well have a windows box
with a vst host and a touch monitor or/and usb midi controller and call it a day.<br>
The question still stands though - are there any softsynths that are optimised for a touch screen? Does it feel any good at all to control one with your finger or should I think of something else?</p>

Not touch screen, but MiniDexed is kind of the darling of the<br>
Pi/Synth world these days. Its a DX7 emulator that uses a jog<br>
wheel and a 16x2 LCD. You can bang this together with a<br>
little time and not much cost.<br>
