Well... the first one was a spark gap radio, can you call that<br>
electronic? I guess it uses a non-linearity (the spark gap) to amplify<br>
signal.<br>

But that was also used in the telegraph.<br>

I don't see a reason to only allow "electronics" starting with the<br>
vacuum tube - a spark gap is essentially a gas tube. Just with no tube<br>
shaped envelope.<br>

There have been flame triode amplifiers as well.<br>
