You are doing it wrong. I never "flip the board over" -- I solder all parts that have equal height at the same time, and place them against a small piece of wood before setting the whole thing down. It's all about order of<br class="">

4) IC sockets<br class="">

If, in that rare circumstance, I need to flip the board over before all the joints are soldered, then I simply pick up the piece of wood and invert the board into my other hand -- nothing ever falls out.<br class="">

Also, if I do drop a part on the floor (a very common occurrence), then I can generally find it and pick it back up. Not so with an SMD part -- once it hits the floor, it is in the Delta quadrant, sinking in Captain Janeway's coffee.<br class="">
