less use and so are often in pretty good condition. It also helps if those channels haven’t had someone without basic soldering skills doing ‘preventative recapping’ of every electrolytic, when most of them still have decades of life in them.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">I worked with Zähl on the CV channel for thew AM-1 (presumably the incredible design from Germany mentioned below). Michael designed the custom mixers that were in the studios of Can and Conny Plank. He is extremely careful with noise and
crosstalk. H wouldn’t allow me to use any digital clocking in the CV parts of the channel. Although not as expensive as an SSL or Neve, the Zähl is “price no object” by today’s standards and has taught me how a mixer becomes €50,000.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">That said, I bought a used 40 channel Soundcraft Vienna for €800. That is a large format front of house live board from the 90’s. It has 8 sends, 8 busses, VCA groups, mute groups, balanced in/out, inserts on every channel NOT on send/receive
jacks, sweepable hipass filter on each channel, serious 4 band semi perimetric EQ, fuil meterbridge built in. It was about €30,000 when new. But, it weighs about 150kg and uses an entire power circuit for itself, heating the room when on. <o:p></o:p></p>
