The term "jack" has historically referred to this *type of connector*, not<br>
its sex - so that best usage to remove confusion might be "jack plug" and<br>
"jack socket." Using "jack" as exactly meaning "socket" regardless of<br>
what type of connector is involved, may be more common today but isn't<br>
universal.<br>
