<p>As far as I know the potentiometers can not be taken apart. The
plastic part is riveted to the aluminum shaft. When take it apart
you can not put it back together. I clean these pots by spraying a
bit ipa in it and turn the pot several times. I also use a piece
of paper soaked in ipa to clean the wipers. I put this between the
wiper and the carbon part and pull it back gently. I do the same
with the two small contacts that are connected to the center pin.

scratchy, so I decided to clean it by dismantling it first so
I can really get all the dirt out of it and clean the tracks.
I managed to remove the metal cover of the pot. Underneath
there is a white plastic part that holds the vipers. Can this
plastic part be removed by pulling it of or will this result
in a destroyed pot?</div>

pot even if the white plastic part is still there, but it
would be a lot easier if it could be removed, but I just
wanted to check here whether removing the plastic part is a
good idea or not...</div>
