I flew hang gliders before I wrote the book and then took flying lessons <br>
afterwards.  I soloed but those who love flying have it dominate their lives <br>
and it was just one thing I was interested in and I wasn't going to keep <br>
current.  I had a series of things happen during that time - getting into <br>
IFR conditions, nose wheel shimmy on takeoff, almost flying into the Sierras <br>
with friends, near midairs... that I just gave it up.  Had some great times <br>
with friends that had a P-51.<br>
