<div dir="ltr">A lot of this comes down to what tool you've already invested your time in. All my muscle and UI memory is now stuck in Altium land (though it took me about 6 months to fully transition from OrCAD/Allegro) so the idea of using any other tool sounds incredibly painful.<div><br></div><div>For price, Altium Designer is still out of hobbyist reach. Fortunately they created CircuitStudio which is basically a stripped down Altium Designer (unfortunately they didn't retain the keyboard shortcuts which are part of the aforementioned muscle memory). CircuitStudio is missing some nice things like length matching, more advanced search capabilities (the "Find Similar Objects..." command) and some other things that seem like bugs (layer sets don't work, polygon handling is much more clunky). I purchased it for $500 (that may have been a special offer) which is a steal considering Designer is ~$10k. Sometime after I received an offer for Designer at $5k which was tempting but still more than I can justify. </div><div><br></div><div>Eagle is either $100 or $500 (needed if you exceed Standard's board size or layer count limitations) per year so a $500 permanent seat license for CS (no board size or layer count limitations) is very competitive. Also, Eagle to me is not very easy on the eyes.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Thu, Jun 28, 2018 at 2:01 PM, Chris Juried <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:cjuried@yahoo.com" target="_blank">cjuried@yahoo.com</a>></span> wrote:<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><div><div style="font-family:verdana,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size:13px"><div style="font-family:verdana,helvetica,sans-serif;font-size:13px"><div><div>How does Altium compare to Eagle?<br></div><span class=""><div><br></div><div class="m_3440980594834909871ydp48b29ff1signature"><div><font size="2">Sincerely, <br> </font></div><div><font size="2">Chris Juried <br>Audio Engineering Society (AES) <var id="m_3440980594834909871ydp48b29ff1yui-ie-cursor"></var>Member <br>InfoComm-Recognized AV Technologist</font><span class="m_3440980594834909871ydp48b29ff1postbody"><br><a href="http://www.JuriedEngineering.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.JuriedEngineering.<wbr>com</a> <br><a href="http://www.TubeEquipment.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.TubeEquipment.com</a> <br><a href="http://www.HistoryOfRecording.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.HistoryOfRecording.<wbr>com</a> <br></span><a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/chrisjuried" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.linkedin.com/in/<wbr>chrisjuried</a><br></div><div><font size="3"><font size="2"><b>Email:</b> <a href="mailto:CJuried@yahoo.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">CJuried@yahoo.com</a> <br><b>Voice:</b> (954) 478-4355 <br><br><br>This e-mail, and any attachments thereto, is intended only for use by the addressee(s) named herein and may contain legally privileged and/or confidential information.
