If you flip a subsequent digit unit upside down, it's dot will be above the dot of the previous digit. You a colon separator for a time display.</blockquote><div><br></div><div>The dot might be part of the explanation, perhaps.</div><div><br></div><div>But that colon would be quite malformed with its upper dot at the very top.
