I think the "secure" ship has sailed! Encrypting copies when there's already a PDF freely circulating is a bit futile. IMO, Barry, just publish it and don't worry about piracy. If only the pirate copy is available nobody will ever pay unless they want a physical copy. If the e-book is available, at least the law abiding people who want to contribute can do so.

Cheers

Q

On Wed, Jul 5, 2017 at 4:06 PM, Jason Proctor <jason@redfish.net> wrote:

i wonder whether publishing as some kind of e-book would be more secure?

On Wed, Jul 5, 2017 at 1:30 PM, Joel B <onephatcat@earthlink.net> wrote:

How about this: you sell the PDF only directly from your website. You generate a unique, password protected PDF for each order including some markers (like the NSA uses) that let you identify the unique owner of the document. You include in the license a hefty fine to be paid if they allow the doc to be pirated. A stolen laptop won't include the password so that would be reasonably hacker proof.

You sell the whole thing for $150. Since it will have a full text search index it's actually far more valuable than a stack of paper.
A full text index on cd or internet would also be a great enhancement to the stack of paper.
