    I think he means: have a switch based keyboard like an simple organ,
    an now select with a voltage, which switch should be activated
    (which key should be presse). The real activation of the switch/key
    will happen by a gate signal.<br>

    My solution would be a simple A/D converter, which produces 6 bit
    data from the voltage. This data bus is used to address the
    corresponding switch. For example: it adresses a line of
    demultiplexers, the common signal is the gate, the individual outs
