Various things came up of course in this discussion.

I'd prefer synth-diy to keep running under MailMan. Not just for
the (re)distribution of mails, but also for the archives. XS4ALL
does have MailMan.

I don't feel like handing over to Google, Yahoo, and such parties.
It may be free, but with anything that is free from them, you
are the product.

If you'd start all over you could use some forum product, but that
requires more management, moderation, etc etc, and a more
complicated infrastructure. MailMan is a very stable standard
product.

Another option would have been a USENET newsgroup/discussion group
(yes, very old, but works fine), although that has no true
archives, and is a bit anonymous, and not moderatable.

The domain the list runs in does not matter, MailMan can be run at
any provider.

I'll talk to XS4ALL first. If they are willing to host it I'm very
happy, and maybe we'll reach 25 years! ;-)
