That is a clever solution, Stewart.

The problem you run into is that the requested size is pretty darn huge for a die cast box. Most solutions for a size like that would use bent sheet metal. I thought about doing this a while ago, and decided that the easiest/cheapest way would be to get an aluminium C section and use wooden end cheeks and possibly a wooden base...
I'm looking for a diecast aluminum enclosure
to build a footswitch board with 12 pushbutton switches..
I'm looking for something like this:

http://www.hammondmfg.com/1590B2_B.jpg

But BIGGER !
Something like 15"wide x 12"deep x 2"thick max.
A slant top would be fine too.

Hammond enclosures web site has a whole collection of
diecast enclosures but they are all 'boxy' instead
of being flat. When the enclosure is large enough
the thickness is too high for footswitching..

I found some slant enclosures but they are not large
and deep enough and are made of 1/16" thick aluminum (not diecast)
that would bend with many actions on the switches.
Not very reliable..

If anybody has a link on something..
Thanks
